Residents were forced to flee as a Lower Eyre Peninsula went up in flames overnight.

At 11:15pm on Tuesday, CFS crews were alerted to a house fire on Pobke Rd at Pearlah about 25 kilometres east of Port Lincoln.

Fighterfighters arrived to find the fire had spread into the house’s roof space.

A crew of 15 CFS firefighters – including crews equipped with breathing apparatus – carefully worked room by room to extinguish the fire amid concerns of structural weaknesses – particularly to the ceiling.

The CFS reported the residents had evacuated safely while two adults were being assessed for possible smoke inhalation.

Fighterfighters managed to save the rear rooms from being impacted but there was extensive damage to the home and the bill is expected to exceed $300,000.

Fire cause investigators were set to attend the site on Wednesday morning.

Fears firebug targeting Barossa township

Police have launched an investigation after multiple suspicious fires – believed to be deliberately lit – in a Barossa township this month.

At least four fires in the Tanunda township – some on the properties of businesses – have been reported in April, all in the vicinity of Basedow Rd – and all are suspected to have been deliberately lit.

Police and fire crews were called to the first of the incidents on April 8, with the CFS putting out the blaze near the train line behind a supermarket at Tanunda.

Police said there no property was damaged.

In another incident, a stack of pallets were set on fire at a business in the township on April 18.

The pallets were placed against the side of shed, which was damaged in the blaze.

The following day a fire was lit at another business but there was no damage.

Then on April 20, there was a small grass fire near a fence line on Basedow Rd.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact Crime Stoppers at crimestopperssa.com.au or calling 1800 333 000.
