David Charles Maunder jailed after being caught in sting grooming ‘children’ for sex

A 43-year-old father with the username “I’m your daddy” is behind bars after he sent nude photos to who he believed were young teenage girls online.

A 43-year-old man with the username “I’m your daddy” was persistent in his grooming requests to who he believed were young teenage girls.

David Charles Maunder, 43, was jailed for over a year after he was caught in an undercover police sting sending nude photos.

During sentencing on Monday, the District Court heard Maunder began communicating by Kik with undercover police officers, who had assumed the identities of a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old girl.

Maunder, who had the online username “I’m your daddy” told the children he was 21, which he later revised to 18.

The court heard Maunder sent one of the children a photo of his penis while saying “this should help you sexy”, as well as female masturbating diagrams.

Maunder also sent the other child a photo of his penis, saying “I reckon you could handle it,” as well as a video of him masturbating.

Maunder, of Port Noarlunga, pleaded guilty to three counts of communicating to procure a child for sexual activity, between April 2020 and July 2021.

Peter Hill, for Maunder, told the court during sentencing submissions his client was exposed to pornography from a young age and turned to online sexual activity after the trauma of his wife’s delivery of his youngest son.

“And the addition of consuming alcohol further lowering his inhibitions in the context of his pornography addiction,” he said.

The court heard Maunder started a trucking business, but closed it down due to his inevitable prison sentence, which would lead to his likely bankruptcy.

The court heard Maunder, a married father-of-three, told a psychologist he didn’t have a sexual interest in children.

Judge Michael Durrant said children needed to be protected from being procured to participate in grotesque acts for the sexual gratification of predators.

He sentenced Maunder to one year and six months jail, with a non-parole period of nine months.

“Your offending was carried out online, in secret and with the use of an anonymous profile,” Judge Durrant said.

“You were persistent in your sexual requests when it was clear you were interacting with a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl.”
