A young man has been jailed for more than four years after he threatened to slit the throat of a man during a Facebook Marketplace sale.

Isaac Antonie Bridgland, 22, told the court he has now found religion after bringing a knife to a violent robbery.

During sentencing, the District Court heard the victim had listed his Xbox gaming console, controller and a game, valued at $310, on Facebook Marketplace for sale.

Bridgland messaged the victim on September 24, 2022 and asked him to deliver the Xbox to him at Enfield.

When the victim arrived Bridgland looked through the items in the bag and told him he was not paying for them.

“When he questioned you, you lifted your shirt and exposed a knife that was tucked into the waistband of your trousers,” Judge Paul Muscat said.

“You told the victim to leave your property.

“You threatened to slit his throat as he ran to his car in fear of you.”

The court heard police investigations found the stolen items in Bridgland’s room, as well as the messages from the transaction on his phone.

Bridgland pleaded guilty to robbery.

He breached a suspended sentence bond with the offending, after he was sentenced in April 2022 for illegal use of a motor vehicle and the theft of a credit card.

“It is concerning that at such a young age you have taken to robbing people of their property,” Judge Muscat said.

The court heard Bridgland had a history of using illicit substances, including methamphetamine, especially in the lead-up to the offending.

The court heard Bridgland had found religion since being in prison and hoped to find work once released.

Judge Muscat sentenced Bridgland to four years and seven months jail, with a non-parole period of two years.

The sentence was backdated to October 7, 2022.
