A teenager who punched a man to the head during a drunken night on Hindley St, leaving the victim with a critical brain injury, has been charged with more assault offences while on bail.

On Thursday, the District Court heard that Cyrus Kane Stusser, of Noarlunga Downs, who was 18 at the time of the assault on July 5, 2020, had two new Magistrate Court files.

Judge Paul Muscat adjourned sentencing submissions so Stusser’s lawyer could review the new files and, if necessary, have them called up to the District Court to be dealt with together.

Stusser is facing three counts of assault and a single count of property damage from an incident in Christie Downs overnight on August 10, 2022.

He is also charged on a separate file with aggravated assault, damaging a building or car, dishonestly taking property and failing to comply with bail conditions on March 4, 2022, in Adelaide.

He has yet to enter a plea to those charges.

Judge Muscat raised concerns that Stusser had told a psychiatrist that the offending on March 4 had been of a similar nature to the July 2020 assault which left the victim with serious injuries.

The court heard that the victim of the assault had not been able to complete a victim impact statement because he had been undergoing further brain surgery years after the attack.

Stusser was arrested at 1.30am on July 5, 2020, after police on patrol on Hindley St saw a fight break out and a man fall to the ground.

Stusser was pepper sprayed by police, arrested and charged with intentionally causing serious harm.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, admitting he had thrown the punch but had not intended the serious injuries caused to the victim.

At a hearing in June, Stusser pleaded guilty to recklessly causing serious harm.

Judge Muscat heard the entire incident had been captured on security cameras on Hindley St.

Stusser will appear in court again in November for sentencing submissions.
