The man charged over a horror attack on Hindley St that left a young man fighting for life has confessed to the crime.
Standing silently in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Craig Sansbury-Weetra told a magistrate he was responsible for the attack on Jordan Dodd in August last year.
Sansbury-Weetra had previously been charged with one count of causing serious harm with intent to do so, one count recklessly causing harm with intent and one count of causing harm with intent but pleaded guilty to the third charge after the first two charges were dropped.
Previously, prosecutors had alleged Mr Sansbury-Weetra, 23, of Clearview, felled Mr Dodd, 20, with a single punch to the head, then stomped on his chest and ran off.
They further alleged the men clashed not only earlier that night – August 11 – but also on August 3 outside The District nightclub.
Mr Dodd was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while Mr Sansbury-Weetra was bailed after arguing, in the Supreme Court, he was “not a violent man”.
Sansbury-Weetra’s lawyer told the court that, following ongoing negotiations with prosecution, her client would instead plead guilty to the third and only remaining charge of causing harm with intent.
The 23-year-old was silent, and only spoke to enter his plea. “Guilty,” he said from the dock.
He was remanded on continuing bail to face the District Court in May where a date will be set for sentencing submissions.
He declined to comment outside court.
