A motorcyclist was killed in a crash at Teringie less than two hours after a six-year-old child was struck by a car at Rosslyn Park, about five kilometres away.

The motorcyclist, a man, 50, of Greenwith, crashed into a guard rail about 11.45am on Saturday, on Old Norton Summit Rd near Horsnells Gully Rd.

The man was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, but died of his injuries a short time later.

The fatal crash happened less than two hours after a young boy, 6, was hit by a car.

He was taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, where he remains.

Jack Yates was working in maintenance on a nearby property when he said he heard screams coming from the road.

“We heard a scream, which just sounded like a playful scream and didn’t think anything of it, but when we came out the front to get some tools we saw that there was a kid on the floor and people everywhere,” Mr Yates told The Sunday Mail.

The six year old boy was struck at the eastern, residential end of The Parade.

“We came outside about 10 minutes after it had happened and there was just a kid lying on the road, with about four people around him”.

“One of them was doing CPR, organising everyone and organising an ambulance.”

Mr Yates’ workmate Curtis McCarthy said he believed the man conducting CPR was a GP. He said he was unsure how the accident happened.

Another man, Stuart Mackenzie, was driving past when the accident occurred and he pulled over to assist.

“As I arrived I don’t think the boy was breathing, the doctor was doing chest compressions, he was very calm and knew what to do.”

“We were blocking traffic making sure there weren’t cars coming through, the last thing we’d need is another accident.”

The driver of the silver SUV, which struck the boy, a woman on her P-plates also had a child in the vehicle at the time, and was interviewed by police.

Traffic on The Parade is blocked in both directions and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene of both incidents.

The Parade and Old Norton Summit Rd were closed, but have both reopened.

Following the death of the motorcyclist, South Australia’s road toll is now at 80, compared with 71 at the same time last year.

The Greenwith man is the 16th motorcyclist to be killed in a fatal crash in SA this year.
