A car had to be towed from the Aquatic Reserve on Sunday after a man drove his four-wheel drive straight into the water.

A police spokeswoman said the vehicle crashed off a ramp at West Lakes and ended up in the water about 12.30pm on Sunday.

There were no injuries sustained in the incident, which police say was a case of “misadventure”.

Witnesses – who were fishing nearby – reported seeing the car, which was playing loud music, drive straight into the water.

They said the man appeared to be “drinking champagne from the bottle”.

A bystander checked on the man and tried to provide assistance before calling police.

No charges have yet been laid in relation to the incident.

Police are investigating whether mental health contributed to the crash.

It comes after a driver was lucky to escape injury after her car flipped upside down and landed in a creek at Athelstone on Saturday.

The silver Toyota sedan slid off the road into a creek embankment before it flipped into a creek off Montacute Rd around 1pm on Saturday.

While the driver escaped with no injuries, she was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital as a precaution.
