A few hours later, a driver of a stolen vehicle in a police pursuit crashed into a tree after their car’s tyres were spiked.

The stolen Kia sedan was pursued by police several times overnight before officers spiked the car’s tyres on Pallamana Rd at Monarto. The car left the road and hit a tree.

The driver, a 28-year-old Morphett Vale man, was taken to the Murray Bridge hospital with a sore shoulder.

The car was first spotted on Mawson Rd, Meadows, about 1.20am Saturday. However, patrols lost sight of the vehicle after the driver refused the stop.

Almost an hour later, a Murray Bridge patrol located the same car on Brinkley Rd, Murray Bridge, but again, the driver refused to stop.

The sedan was pursued around the Callington and Monarto area before the pursuit was again stopped at 2.40am.

Police spiked the tyres and ended the pursuit just after 3am.

The 28-year-old was charged with illegal use, driving with unassigned plates, driving disqualified and engaging in a police pursuit.

He was refused bail and will appear at the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on Monday June 27.

The Kia was towed from the scene. It had been reported stolen from a Kilburn address on June 16.
