A muscle car driver accused of killing a suburban mother while driving dangerously and at “extreme speed” will plead not guilty, a court has heard.
Bhupinder Singh, 22, of Ottoway, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday over his alleged role in the March 2023 death of Christine Sandford.
As he stood in the dock, Ms Sandford’s daughter Taniesha and her supporters watched from the second row of the public gallery.
Mr Singh has yet to plead to one aggravated count each of causing death by dangerous driving and driving at an extreme speed.
Both charges arise from an incident in which the car driven by Ms Sandford, 40, was T-boned by a Ford Mustang just minutes from her Windsor Gardens home.
At the time, SA Police alleged Ms Sandford’s car was struck as she left a petrol station, and that the high-powered muscle car had been seen weaving in and out of traffic.
Mr Singh, they alleged, was behind the wheel of the Mustang throughout that period.
On Wednesday, James Caldicott, for Mr Singh, said he had yet to receive the full brief of evidence from police.
“My client has surrendered his passport as part of his bail conditions, and my instructions are that the matter will be contested,” he said.
Magistrate Ben Sale remanded Mr Singh on continuing bail to face court again in September.
Outside court, Taniesha Sandford said life had been “very difficult” for her family since her mother’s death
