A woman injured in an alleged drunken Australia Day boat crash at Mannum is still in hospital months after the incident, a court has heard, which was also told the charges were “not admitted”.
On Tuesday, Amy Michelle Lohf, 43, of Mannum, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court from the office of her lawyer via video link to answer her bail.
The court heard prosecutors were proceeding with one count each of aggravated causing serious harm by dangerous driving and leaving the accident scene after causing serious harm.
Ms Lohf is yet to enter any pleas, but the court heard the charges were “not admitted”.
Her counsel told the court negotiations with prosecutors were anticipated to begin soon.
Prosecutors told the court a 20-year-old Mannum woman struck by a boat while swimming in the River Murray was still in hospital – more than five months after sustaining her injuries.
Prosecutors asked for an eight-week adjournment before Ms Lohf was scheduled to enter her pleas, because a further statement from the complainant was needed, along with further medical reports.
Ms Lohf was originally arrested in January after the crash on Australia Day.
Police later arrested Ms Lohf for a second time on March 7 and charged her with hinder following investigations into the boat crash.
Police say the 43-year-old failed to answer questions under the authority of the Harbours and Navigation Act.
Court documents initially alleged at the time of her first arrest, Ms Lohf had a blood alcohol reading of 0.142 – almost three times the legal limit.
Police originally sought Ms Lohf to be not bailed to her home town of Mannum, but was released home despite the protest.
Chief Magistrate, Judge Mary-Louise Hribal remanded Ms Lohf on continuing bail to enter her pleas in July.
