A young man caught on camera allegedly driving more than 200 km/h in an 80 km/h zone has been arrested after police tracked him down to an unlikely hidey-hole.

A man caught on camera allegedly driving more 200 km/h in an 80 km/h zone has been arrested after police found him hiding in a cupboard.

A 21-year-old man was charged with two counts of extreme speed and two counts of driving while suspended after his vehicle was allegedly detected by safety cameras travelling at 196 km/h and 203 km/h in 80 km/h zones on August 10 and 13 on Main North Rd.

Police, with the help of police dog Jax, were sent to the man’s Elizabeth Downs address about 8.30pm on Sunday where they say the found the man hiding inside a cupboard, and arrested him

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on September 30.

Investigations to find and impound the man’s Holden Commodore sedan are continuing.

Officer in Charge of Road Policing Section, Inspector Mark Atkinson, said the behaviour displayed was “reprehensible”.

“Speeding is a leading cause of fatal and serious injury crashes, and this driver has placed other road users at significant risk,” he said.

It comes after a P-plater lost his licence after being caught allegedly speeding at Wirrabara on Friday, August 16.

Gladstone Police say they detected the vehicle travelling at 155 km/h in a 110 km/h zone on the Horrocks Hiwy at Wirrabara .

The 17-year-old male driver from Broadview only held a provisional licence.

He also had a passenger in the car at the time.

He was issued with an expiation notice and a six-month instant loss of licence.
