A Belarusian actor charged over an “indecent act” on an international flight will no longer perform in the Adelaide Festival show Dogs of Europe.
Festival chief executive Kath Mainland said the production by Belarus Free Theatre, which operates in exile from its homeland, would proceed without cast member Aleh Sidorchyk, who is scheduled to return to court on Monday.
“Aleh Sidorchyk will no longer be appearing in Dogs of Europe and will be replaced by Ilya Yasinski and Igor Shugaleev,” Ms Mainland said.
“The production will open on Thursday night and continue its run until Monday 6 March, as planned.”
Sidorchyk, 61, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link from the City Watchhouse on Monday, charged with committing an act of indecency.
He was on a Malaysian Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide on Sunday when the alleged incident involving someone else aboard occurred.
Sidorchyk was ordered to surrender his passport and report to Hindley St Police Station, not leave the state and stay at his booked North Tce accommodation.
The court heard the matter was expected to be resolved when Mr Sidorchyk returns to court on Monday, ahead of his planned flight out of the country on Tuesday, March 7.
