A teenage boy has lost his licence after crashing his car outside a Norwood restaurant late on Wednesday night.
Police attended the scene after reports the 17-year-old boy crashed into a bin before his black Holden Commodore came to rest against bollards outside European Cafe on The Parade at about 11.45pm.
Restaurant owners Gabriella and Giorgio Cavuoto, who’ve owned the business since it opened in 1979, were shocked by the incident which happened after they left at about 10pm.
“This has never happened (before),” Ms Cavuoto said.
She said Mr Cavuoto rushed to the restaurant after he heard of the incident.
“When my husband got the phone call he went down to the restaurant.
“It doesn’t look too great.”
But the owner was grateful that there was no extensive damage and said it was “lucky the bollards were there” to protect it.
Ms Cavuoto recalls someone was dining at the exact place where the car made impact just hours before.
The restaurant is expected to open tonight and the owners will make a decision about whether they will have the outside area cordoned off.
The Commodore was extensively damaged and towed from the scene following the incident.
The Payneham driver and his passenger, a 16-year-old boy from Campbelltown, were uninjured and the cafe, which was closed at the time, was not structurally damaged.
The driver was reported for dangerous driving and lost his licence on the spot for twelve months.
He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
