A man died on Friday afternoon when a car rolled through a fence on the Yorke Peninsula.

The crash happened about 12pm on Chinaman Wells Road at Maitland, when a Toyota sedan lost control.

Paramedics, police and fire crews rushed to the scene to aid the 36-year-old Bowden man, who was a passenger in the car, but he died at the scene.

The driver was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment, while a second passenger was taken to Maitland hospital. Both surviving men are in a stable condition.

The road will have restricted access between Kilkerran and Nalyappa Rd while Major Crash Investigators examine the scene.

The man’s death is the 47th life lost on South Australian roads, compared to 44 at the same time last year.

It follows a horror weekend on SA roads last weekend, where three people lost their lives in crashes.

Bernie Scanlan, 69, died after he was hit by a car while riding his push bike on the Augusta Hwy at Redhill, north of Snowtown on Saturday, May 29.

Tributes were flowing for Mr Scanlan, a fundraising champion who helped open a Ugandan orphanage in 2007.

The following evening, around 6.30pm, 20-year-old Isiah Hodshon was struck by a car while walking along the Augusta Highway at Stirling North.

Police, and Mr Hodshon’s mother, plead with the driver who struck him to come forward but they remain on the run.

Hours later, Kyle Sydenham, 17, was killed in a motorcycle accident at Pompoota, near Mannum. He was riding along Burdett Road and Survey Rd, when he crashed into a car. A 17-year-old Murray Bridge boy was charged with aggravated careless driving.
