The family of murdered Sydney man George Giannopoulos want internat­ional bounty hunters to track down his alleged killer and underworld figure who fled to Greece in 1999.

The family of murdered Sydney man George Giannopoulos want internat­ional bounty hunters to track down his alleged killer and underworld figure James Dalamangas, who fled to Greece in 1999.

NSW Police have confirmed anyone who gives ­information leading to the arrest of Dalamangas — even in Greece — is eligible to apply for the $200,000 reward.

Dalamangas is also ­wanted for the 1997 murder of Kings Cross bouncer Tim Voukelates, shot five times in his car at Campsie.

George Giannopoulos was killed when he tried to stop a fight between James Dalamangas and another man at a Belmore club.

Dalamangas is wanted for two murders in Sydney. There is a $200,000 reward for anyone who passes on information that leads to his arrest.

“The reward should be lifted to $1 million,” said Toula Giannopoulos on the 20th anniversary of her brother’s death.

“He is wanted for two murders here in Sydney and the ­reward was offered a long time ago and should be increased.’’

Mr Giannopoulos, 32, a father of two was stabbed in the neck and stomach on April 25 when he tried to stop a fight between Dalamangas and another man at a club at Belmore.

At the time of the murder Dalamangas was involved in a $23 million lawsuit against Star City Casino over the alleged choking death of his brother Peter in an altercation with casino staff.

James Dalamangas, 48, and his family were infuriated with the initial police investigation finding the death was accidental.

The Daily Telegraph has learned risk assessments were carried out on the threat to police officers who investigated Peter Dalamangas’s death after information suggested contracts may have been taken out on the their lives. After Mr ­Giannopoulos’s murder ­Dal­amangas fled the country using a false passport.

His family want international bounty hunters to track down the killer.

In 2003 the Greek government refused a request to extradite him, instead agreeing to prosecute him in Greece once he was arr­ested. But authorities have been unable to locate him.

“I don't believe anyone from the Greek police have even tried to find him, it’s pathetic,” Toula Giannopoulos said.

“My mother and father are Greek citizens and the government should get justice for them for the murder of George.”

The NSW Police force believes people in Greece know where Dalamangas is.

“The $200,000 reward is available internationally so we are urging anyone, whether in Australia, Greece, or wherever in the world, to come forward,” homicide squad boss Superintendent Grant Taylor said.
