Families can get a taste of the best produce at Tasting Australia

Good food should be accessible to everyone. It’s why chef Karena Armstrong puts on an affordable, family-friendly event at Tasting Australia.

Good food should be accessible to everyone, says chef Karena Armstrong.

It’s why the face behind award-winning restaurant The Salopian Inn is bringing back her family-friendly feast as part of next year’s Tasting Austraila festival.

While some of the dinners with international guest chefs cost several hundred dollars, Armstrong’s event is around $45 for adults and less for children.

“For the dinner, we use lots of secondary cuts – it’s still high quality and higher welfare food but served differently,” Armstrong said.

Applications are now open for food and drink businesses to be part of Tasting Australia 2020, from March 27 to April 5.

Armstrong’s sold-out event this year welcomed all sorts of families, she said.

“The definition of family is different for different people,” the mother-of-three said. “We had older couples coming in, some gay families coming in, single parents, and a lot of people who were really, really good friends … it was a real cross section of our community.

“I’m going to do a big crazy Chinese banquet next year. I might even call it Family Chaos!”
