WILL it be le fromage and a glass of French fizz? Or a local hero pairing from some of Australia’s finest producers and craft brewers?

Adelaide’s much-loved food frolic CheeseFest is back this year and, for the first time, will be showcasing imported cheeses alongside charcuterie and Champagne in a French Quarter. This year’s event in October will also incorporate Ferment the Festival, meaning more delicious treats such as chocolate, pickles and bread will join the party.

MasterChef judge and columnist for The Advertiser Matt Preston will be special guest and official “Master of Fromage”, as well as taking part in cooking demonstrations in a line-up also including Simon Bryant, Jessie Spiby and Callum Hann.

Other new events include cheese trivia sessions hosted by The Advertiser food editor Simon Wilkinson, and Anna Perejma from The Cheese Riot. As well as cheese tastings and special toasties, local restaurants including The Salopian Inn, Level One at Electra House and Ballaboosta will have stalls to keep everyone well fed.

CheeseFest founder Kris Lloyd said she believed it was the right time to welcome imported cheeses to the event she launched in 2006. “We have protected CheeseFest from having imported cheese or other products because we wanted it to be true representation of SA and Australia,” she said.

“Now I feel like the local cheese industry has matured and can hold its own. It’s a good time to acknowledge we do make French-style cheeses and let people be the judge.”

Ms Lloyd said having Matt Preston as an ambassador would broaden the appeal of the event. “Matt has an interest in CheeseFest and was keen to be involved,” she said. “He brings another audience to us, as well as his usual charisma and flair.”

CheeseFest is in Rymill Park on October 27-28. Tickets are on sale online for $25 a day or $40 for a weekend pass. Tickets at the gate will be $30. For more information go to cheesefest.com.au
