Nick Kyrgios reveals secret behind 100 per cent success rate against Novak Djokovic

Aussie star Nick Kyrgios is one of few players in the world to own a perfect record against World No.1 Novak Djokovic. He stepped into the commentary box today and revealed how he did it.

Not many players on the tour can say they have a winning record against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Even fewer can say they’re perfect against the 14-time Grand Slam champion.

But Aussie Nick Kyrgios can.

The 23-year-old has met the Serbian legend twice — and beaten him both times.

Both meetings were in 2017, where Kyrgios first beat the Djoker 7-6(9) 7-5 in Acapulco, Mexico and then 6-4 7-6 (3) at the At the ATP Masters 1000 at Indian Wells.

Kyrgios says the key to beating the seven-time Australian Open winner is unpredictable serving that kept him “guessing”.

“I felt when I was getting on top of Novak in my matches it all started on my serve — when I kind of felt like he was guessing and didn’t really see a pattern on my serve,” Kyrgios said.

“That’s when I was confident he didn’t have any idea of my patterns of serving then I made inroads into his game.

“I feel his forehand is marginally the weaker return, not by much. His backhand is so rock solid you are never going to get a free point out of it.”

Kyrgios said he focussed on stopping Djokovic from finding his rhythm.

“I tried not to give him too much rhythm, junk him a little bit,” Kyrgios said.

“Slice and make him come forward.

“He’s such a great counterpuncher, I didn’t want to give him any angles, the best mover on tour, one of the best athletes in the game.

“I tried to keep it as unpredictable as possible.”

Bit of food for thought for Russian 15th seed Daniil Medvedev, who Djokovic will play in the fourth round.
