CANBERRA great Terry Campese holds the unofficial mantle as the highest single game scorer in NRL SuperCoach history.

Campese compiled an estimated 262 points in the Raiders 74-12 demolition job of Penrith in the nation’s capital in 2008.

Campese’s tally included an incredible four tries, 10 conversions, three linebreaks, four linebreak assists and two try assists.

SuperCoach fanatics have for years debated who would hold the coveted accolade, with many referencing Campese’s mauling of the Panthers as the top gong.

Scoring systems have been dramatically overhauled since SuperCoach began in 2008, with statistics greatly inflating scores over the years.

Cameron Munster holds the official title when recording 183 points against the Roosters in 2016.

The Storm fullback bagged a try, three try assists, two tackles, seven tackle busts, two effective offloads, four linebreaks, four linebreak assists, 15 hits-ups over 8m and four hit-ups under eight metres.

Munster overtook James Maloney’s 181 points against the Panthers in 2013, while Jordan Rapana (170 v Titans in 2017), Anthony Milford (167 v Titans in 2014) and Nathan Merritt (166 v Eels in 2011) round out the top five.

Munster’s monster outing pales in comparison to the Canberra five-eighth.

Midway through the contest Raiders winger Colin Best bombed what would have been a certain fifth try for Campese after making a break and failing to draw the fullback for the unmarked five-eighth.

Campese would have strolled in under the posts for an additional 21 points including the inevitable conversion (17 try, four goal).

Campese unselfishly handed the final conversion of the game from in front of the posts to young halfback Marc Herbert who comfortably slotted the attempt.

He later found out in the sheds that his 36 point haul was just two short of breaking Canberra’s point scoring record held by Mal Meninga.

In an attempt to settle debates, we’ve crunched the numbers to determine an approximate score for Campese in the clash.

Note that with certain stats not available we’ve given Campese an estimated six points for a repeat set and 12 for last touch assists.

If given captaincy Campese would have recorded 524 points

With 13 tries scored in the match and Campese orchestrating the Raiders attack the additional points are relatively conservative.

Of his 11 hit-ups, we predicted seven to be over 8m (2 points) and four to be under 8m (1 point).

The then Kangaroo was a popular captaincy option for many SuperCoaches and would have racked up an enormous 524 points for those gifting Campese the armband.
