Gold Coast’s Jackson Steinhardt was the batting hero with 33 from 27 balls, while in the field

captain Ashton Gumm, Zac McDermott, Josh Spies, Coby Fitzgerald, Jackson Steinhardt,

Rhys Horne and Oam Patel placed a net around the Sunny Coast batsmen.

Curtis McAllister (20) top scored for Sunshine Coast, while with the ball Oliver Bembrick (3-15) and Mitch Armstrong (2-13) did the job nicely.

SEMI- FINALS TOP PERFORMERS

Shaw Park played host to a ripping day of finals on Sunday, with the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast butting horns in the grand final.

Prior to the big dance, the Scorchers eliminated a gallant Norths outfit while the Dolphins dealt with Valley in a tight contest.

In the earlier game, Norths No.4 batter Miron Nanayakkarawasam notched 49 in what was a match-high score against the Sunshine Coast.

Opening batter Zane Newton also showed determination with 28 off 27 while Tom Longhurst (three wickets) shone yet again.

Norths posted 8-123 and the Sunshine Coast were successful in their pursuit of that score despite strong bowling efforts by Frank Piper (three wickets) and his teammates.

Harrison Sippel (25, 23 balls), Ashton Muir (18,15 balls), Logan Beutel (23, 23 balls), Liam Johnson (17, 22 balls) and Curtis McAllister all chipped in before Tom Longhurst (7 not out) and Saxon Maidment (6 not out) added the finishing touches to punch their grand final ticket.

In the other semi-final where the Gold Coast 7-104 defeated Valley 9-100, Marist College Ashgrove senior Will Nickelson scored 31 against the new ball before finding a partner in Tigh Morris (28).

The pair of them scored well for Valley but there was no getting past Oam Patel (4-0-19-3) and TSS old boy Zac McDermott (4-0-18-2) who restricted the boys from Yoku road to just 100 runs.

Valley captain Charlie Thomas (three wickets), Morris (two wickets) and Saxon Jeh (one wicket) tried hard at the bowling crease but with five balls to spare, the Gold Coast were home.

Captain Ashton Gumm (16) and Jackson Steinhardt (10) put on 22 to get the chase off to a good start and from there, McDermott took charge with a match-defining cameo of 25 (32 balls).

So here it is. The Men’s Under 19 Team of the Season following Sunday’s gala finals day at Norths.

SUPER XI OF THE TOURNAMENT

BATTERS

Jackson Steinhardt (Gold Coast)

The decorated allrounder rose to the occasion in the biggest match of the season. On a deck where just 177 runs were scored across two innings, he found 33 which swayed the match in his team’s direction.

Daniel Seaton (Sandgate-Redcliffe)

The Nudgee College old boy was explosive at the top of the order for the Gators. We know he can score big runs and quickly, and his aggregate 183 runs across the season was a competition high.

Alex Procopis (Norths)

The junior Queensland representative had a blistering strike rate of 160. He went hard and was rewarded with more than 160 runs in the competition. The youngster sure can bat.

Ashton Gumm (Gold Coast)

Take a bow skipper. Coming from The Southport School system, Gumm just knows how to win big matches. Aside from his leadership, he also found 115 runs at a strike rate better than a run-a-ball.

Ryan Pembroke (Toombul)

Bulls junior Pembroke held up his end of the bargain across the season. The Padua College old boy scored two half centuries to again highlight his ability.

Joe Cotgreave (Toombul)

A long time teammate of Pembroke at Padua, Joe Cotgreave scored his runs at better than a run-a-ball. In a short competition dominated by bowlers, Cotgreave was one of the best batsmen going.

Harley Malpass (Wynnum-Manly)

He only had four innings, but still managed to accumulate more than 100 runs. A natural talent, he had a strike rate of 116 which was not too shabby. He could also rush through a few overs.

BOWLERS

Tom Longhurst (Sunshine Coast)

The competition’s leading wicket taker with 15 scalps across the season, Longhurst maintained the rage from start to finish when he took two wickets in the grand final.

Longhurst was a trusted wicket-taker, someone his skipper could rely on to make a breakthrough.

Mitch Armstrong and Oliver Bembrick (Sunshine Coast)

Armstrong and Bembrick were a potent one-two combination who stifled top order batters across the competition.

They were elite across the short season, including when Longlurst took wickets early in the innings to give the Scorchers a chance in every game.

Bembrick and Armstrong did just that in the grand final against the Gold Coast, startling their opposition with two quick wickets.

Unfortunately for them, Jackson Steinhardt had a wonderful knock off 33 to deny the Scorchers the premiership.

Louis Morris plays for Marist and the Valley club.

Louis Morris (Valley)

The Marist College Ashgrove allrounder was an ace with ball in hand.

The right arm slow bowler took nine wickets in six matches but it was his incredible average of 7.44 which highlighted the hold he had on his rivals.

His spells suffocated batsmen, Morris rarely leaking runs and storming through his overs to take batters out of their comfort zone.

Special mentions

Oam Patel (Gold Coast), Benjamin Baker (Sunshine Coast) and Samuel Lewis (Valley)

Patel was fabulous in the finals with five wickets across the two games.

Both Baker and Lewis were at their economical best, halting the flow of runs whenever they were at the bowling crease.
