Cam Sutcliffe has called on Port Adelaide fans to get to Adelaide Oval early on Saturday and turn the ground into a sea of black and white.

For the first time there will be a Showdown double-header, with the Port and Crows SANFL teams going head-to-head at 3.35pm, followed by the AFL main event at 7.10pm.

And after the AFL last week denied Port the chance to wear its famous black-and-white prison bar guernsey in Showdown 49, Magpies captain Sutcliffe wants the club’s fans to show their true colours in the curtain-raiser.

Port will wear its traditional strip, as it does every week in the SANFL, in the early match against the Crows.

The clash will be one of three state league encounters live streamed on advertiser.com.au this weekend.

“We love wearing the prison bars every week, we hope to do the guernsey proud and we’d love to see a sea of black and white at our game,’’ said Sutcliffe, whose 2-3 side is coming off a stunning 10-goal thumping of premier Woodville-West Torrens at Alberton Oval.

“It’s unfortunate our AFL boys won't get the chance to wear it this weekend because it is part of the heritage of the club, but they’ll put that to the back of their minds and just get on with the footy.

“It’s good for us to be able to wear it in the SANFL and our fans, if they get there early, can see the young talent on our list, along with our SANFL-contracted boys who are also playing some good footy.

“We are trying to play an exciting brand, had a couple of close losses against South Adelaide and Glenelg, and put it all together against the Eagles on the weekend.

“Hopefully we can emulate that against the Crows because the rivalry is strong and our fans want to see us beat them.’’

The SANFL Showdown will cap off a full day of local footy live streams on The Advertiser website.

North Adelaide’s women’s meeting with West Adelaide will also be broadcast from 12.15pm, as will the under-18 match-up of the Roosters and the Eagles (2pm).

While Sutcliffe, who played 113 AFL games for Fremantle and Port from 2012-20, is no stranger to playing in front of big crowds, Crows SANFL top-up player Hamish Latchford is.

The in-form defender played at Adelaide Footy League club Prince Alfred Old Collegians before signing for Adelaide’s SANFL team in 2019 and playing for Sturt last year when the Crows pulled out of the State League competition because of COVID-19 restrictions.

He returned to Adelaide this season and has been a revelation across half-back, averaging 20 disposals in the first five rounds.

But the 23-year-old landscaper has yet to step foot onto Adelaide Oval or play in front of a bumper crowd, with iconic venue at full capacity this weekend.

“The majority of our boys haven’t played at Adelaide Oval, so it’s going to be pretty surreal and we’re pumped and privileged to be able to get the opportunity,’’ Latchford said.

“No doubt there will be plenty of black and white (colours) at the ground, given it's a Port home game, and we’ll probably cop a bit from the crowd.

“We’re expecting it, but we'll go out there and give it a red-hot crack.

“We were a bit unlucky to lose on the weekend (by one point to Sturt), but our form’s been pretty good (2-3 win-loss record) and we’ll be ready to go.’’
