Soccer success runs in Darcy Dawber’s bloodlines.
Older brother Matthew Dawber is a seasoned performer in SA’s top flight NPL and sister Chelsie Dawber shone on the national W-League stage with Adelaide United’s last summer.
Darcy will get his own shot at glory when he leads Adelaide City into battle against Adelaide Comets in the Football SA under-17 cup final at the Parks, Angle Park, on Monday.
It will be a chance for the Black and Whites skipper to put his name alongside his more established siblings, as the knockout decider will be live streamed on advertiser.com.au.
“My brother Matthew has done well in the firsts at MetroStars and sister Chelsie was the rising star with Adelaide United in the women’s league,” Darcy said.
“It would be nice if I could grab a trophy too.
“Our team had a mixed season. We started off well into the league, dropped off for a while and then came good and finished second to Comets.
“In the cup, we had a nice and close semi (final) which we won 1-0 (over Modbury Vista) to make it to the final.
“We will do our best and I am looking forward to it.”
The clash (1.30pm kick-off) will be one of six encounters broadcast to a global online audience, as part of The Advertiser’s exclusive live coverage of the junior cup final day.
City will be aiming to win the under-17 silverware for the first time since 2012, when it beat Adelaide Hills 6-0.
Last season it lost on penalties to Adelaide Victory.
Comets’ captain Josh Becker was loving playing with his mates, in a dominant campaign for his team.
“I think this will be our first cup final in this age, so everyone’s looking forward to it,’’ Josh, a defensive midfielder, said.
“We are going for a (league and cup) double, so that would be great if we could do that.
“It’s exciting to be there and a boost to the confidence.’’
Comets beat Cumberland United 4-2 in the quarter-final and edged out Modbury Jets 2-1 in their last four clash.
The under-17 contest will be the final fixture on the program.
Matches from under-12 to under-16 will be played simultaneously on two pitches, with Comets and Adelaide City represented in four of the deciders.
The Advertiser’s live stream begins at 9am.
