A number of the state’s most promising athletes have been recognised at the 2022 Advertiser, Sunday Mail and Department for Education School Sports Awards night.
Winners and runners-up were highlighted as the state’s best young talent came together after standout seasons across multiple sports.
Awards were given in four separate categories including student officials, teams, individual primary and individual secondary.
Here are the winners and runners-up for each section.
STUDENT OFFICIAL
JESSE ISAAC – winner
(Endeavour College)
Jesse travelled to Hobart for the U16 National School Sport Australia Hockey Championship this year and was appointed the umpire for the gold medal match.
He also worked as a leader to support up and coming hockey umpires in SA hockey.
He currently umpires Premier League hockey and recently umpired at the Hockey Australia National Championships.
TAYLOR HO – runner-up
(Unley High School)
A senior basketball referee for the Sturt Sabres, Ho also officiates at a school and district level, clocking up over 700 games so far.
He has also mentored countless young referees in SA basketball.
TEAMS
BEN HINKS AND CARTER BAKER, ELLEN SAMPSON AND FALLON KATZ – joint winners
Hinks, Baker, Sampson and Katz are all members of the Australian Sailing Youth team and also competed in the 2022 Youth World Sailing Championships in the Netherlands.
To qualify for selection both duos had to finish first in their National Championships.
Hinks and Baker have both been awarded SASI scholarships.

INDIVIDUAL PRIMARY
TOM BRUNET-GRESEQUE – winner
(Charles Campbell College)
Brunet-Greseque has won eight state and national gold medals this year, namely through a dominant performance in various international opens hosted in Australia as well as the Judo Australia National School Championships.
His most impressive displays were gold medals in the Senior Boys U32kgs division of the Melbourne International Open and the Sydney International Open.
He has also earned a scholarship for the Maribyrnong Sport Academy.
KATIE SEOL – runner-up
(The Heights School)
Seol was the winner of the 2021 and 2022 Australian primary golf championships and at just 11 years old has competed above her age level regularly.
She was a member of the SA Girls U18 Juniors state team for this year’s nationals and won two of her five matches. Seol currently has a handicap of 1.4.
INDIVIDUAL SECONDARY
MILSY (EMILIA) MURRAY – winner
(Henley High School)
Murray has been the golden boot winner of the SA soccer U20s side for four straight seasons and also plays for Adelaide United in the women’s A League at just 17 years of age.
The star striker captained the Young Matildas U20s this year during the Pacific Women’s Four Nations tournament and was part of SA’s team of the year.
KEIRA POST – runner-up
(Immanuel College)
A talented para athlete, Post had a standout 2022, representing Australia as an open age athlete in the Oceania Track and Field Championships.
She competed in both the 100m and 200m open women’s para finals which both included runners from this year’s Commonwealth Games.
The 15-year-old star also made the 100m open women’s final of the Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney.
NESTORY IRANKUNDA – runner-up
(Parafield Gardens High School)
Irankunda made his Adelaide United A League debut at just 15 years old last season, making him the sixth youngest first team member of all time.
