The young star, from Pembroke School and the Norwood Swimming Club, edged out thrower Jett Carlin and baseballer Riley Yeatman, who was recently offered an MLB contract by the San Diego Padres.
Other awards went to individual primary winner Maia Tate, of Southern Montessori School, student officials winner Sean Gabell, of Salisbury High School, and the St Peter’s College Rowing Open Boys Eights team.
Surfer Tate has dominated national events to earn a spot in the Olympic development squad, Gabell has officiated multiple NBL1 basketball games, and the St Peter’s rowers were the first SA team to win nationals since 1968.
School Sport SA leader Paula Nielsen said the winning athletes were shining examples of the quality talent in SA.
“Congratulations to Isabella, St Peter’s College, Maia and Sean. To have a current Paralympian, Australian school-aged rowing champions, an Olympic program development squad invitee and a future NBL basketball referee shows the amazing high standard of our current athletes,” she said.
“The future looks bright for sport in SA.”
