North’s 16.12 (108) to 7.15 (57) triumph put it a win ahead of both Glenelg and Norwood with two minor rounds remaining.

The Tigers led by 11 points at the first change before the Roosters piled on 14 goals to four after quarter time.

Nigel Lockyer (four majors), Tyson Brazel, Frank Szekely (three), and Aaron Young (two) were the multiple goal kickers for North.

Former AFL player Young also gathered a game-high 27 touches while Magarey Medallist Campbell Combe recorded 26 disposals and a whopping 20 tackles.

Matthew Allen fought hard for the Bays, picking up 23 disposals and two goals.

Earlier in the day, North also had the better of Glenelg in the under-16s, winning 14.15 (99) to 8.4 (52).

Sturt had its way with Woodville-West Torrens in the under-18s as the Double Blues saluted 18.12 (120) to 5.6 (36).

Both games were also live streamed by KommunityTV.

PREVIEW: HOW TIGERS RECRUIT IS MAKING MOST OF SECOND CHANCE

Cole Gerloff made such a big impression in his first two seasons at Norwood that former coach Jarrod Cotton declared he had “the potential to be a 200-game player and a future captain of the footy club’’.

But two years later and after 50 league games for the Redlegs, the SANFL’s 2019 Breakthrough Player of the Year was searching for a new club.

“I love all the boys at Norwood but I felt I lacked opportunities last year (under first-year coach Jade Rawlings), there was a bit of confusion with selection,’’ tough-tackling midfielder-forward Gerloff said this week after landing at Glenelg in the off-season.

“A few clubs got wind that I might be looking for a move and Glenelg was one of them.

“They were looking to add some more depth and another dimension to their midfield and it turned out really well because soon after I signed (dual Redlegs premiership ruckman) Sam Baulderstone was appointed ruck and midfield coach there.

“I played a lot of footy with Sam at Norwood and he’s one of my good mates, so that was a bonus and has helped my footy this year.

“I couldn’t fault how things have been going for me down at the Bay.’’

Glenelg will face North Adelaide in a top of the ladder clash this Saturday – one of three SANFL matches live streamed here by KommunityTV.

Gerloff, 23, has not missed a game with his new club.

After playing 13 of a possible 20 league games for the Redlegs last season, along with six reserves matches, he has played a key role in the Tigers sitting second with an 11-4 win-loss record.

Considered unlucky not to have been drafted in 2019 when he averaged 19 disposals and six tackles and kicked 21 goals to be named the SANFL’s best emerging player, Gerloff has been a tackling machine for Glenelg.

Averaging seven bone-crunching tackles a game, his total of 107 ranks third in the competition behind Port Adelaide’s Nick Moore (119) and Woodville-West Torrens’ Dylan Clarke (111).

“Tackling is one of the things I pride myself on, what I base my game around,’’ the strongly-built, 186cm Gerloff said.

“It’s the way I’ve played since I was a kid. A lot of the better teams’ offence comes from tackling and pressure around the ball, so it's something I always look to do.

“You don’t always want to be the one running forward trying to get on the end of one.

“If you can do the work inside to help set your team up to send the ball inside 50 or get a scoring opportunity it’s always a good feeling.’’

Gerloff, who is averaging 15 disposals and four marks this season, was built tough.

He grew up on a farm near Darke Peak, a tiny town on the Eyre Peninsula.

Originally in Port’s recruiting zone, Gerloff represented the Magpies at under-16 level before the area was re-zoned to Norwood.

With “only a pub and a couple of silos there’’, Gerloff moved to Adelaide to board at Prince Alfred College in Year 10 and would go on to captain the first XVIII.

He started turning out for the Redlegs’ under-18s before making his league debut in 2018 and playing in the losing grand final against North Adelaide.

The Roosters loom large again this season, sitting top – equal on points with the Tigers – with three minor round series remaining.

The two clubs will clash in a blockbuster match-up at the Bay on Saturday in a game that will be live streamed by KommunityTV from 2.10pm.

With only one win separating first from the fourth-placed Redlegs on the ladder, Gerloff knows every victory is worth its weight in gold.

“It’s such a tight competition and we’re at the stage of the season now that if you have a good month of footy it could take you a long way,’’ he said.

Two other SANFL matches will also be live streamed this Saturday – North and Glenelg in the under-16s and the Eagles against Sturt in the under-18s.
