It wasn’t pretty for South Adelaide but it was undoubtedly important.
The Panthers pressed their claims for a run at the SANFL finals by downing fifth-placed Sturt in a low-scoring affair at Unley Oval on Saturday.
The match was live streamed by KommunityTV and the full match replay can be viewed above.

Three wins out of the finals spots and needing a victory to stay alive, South produced a big second-half performance when it needed to, prevailing 8.7 (55) to 7.7 (49) against the Double Blues.
The hosts held a three-goal advantage at half-time but the Panthers, led by the likes of Joseph Haines, Mitch O’Neill, Eamon Wilkinson (three goals) and ruckman Keegan Brooksby, found an extra gear to kick six goals to two in the second half.
Sturt’s advantage over South on the ladder was cut to two wins with Woodville-West Torrens, which plays North Adelaide on Sunday, only one victory behind the Double Blues.
Earlier on Saturday, Norwood’s under-18s triumphed emphatically over Central District and the Eagles’s under-16s defeated the Roosters in KommunityTV’s other live streamed SANFL matches.

PREVIEW: SOMETHING BREWING AT UNLEY
Shayne Breuer’s name pops up regularly at trivia nights.
He was Port Adelaide's first AFL goalkicker, having snagged one on the run in the first quarter of the Power's maiden clash against Collingwood at the MCG in round one, 1997.
It gave the former Geelong midfielder something to brag about for life.
But Breuer doesn’t brag.
His son, Sam, didn’t find out about his dad’s memorable feat until one of his older sisters showed him a YouTube video of the play when he was aged “10 or 11’’.
“Dad never really talked too much about his own football career, he was very humble and kept it to himself,’’ said Sam, who had his own memorable moment when he kicked the matchwinning goal for Sturt against Central District in his third SANFL league game at Elizabeth Oval last Saturday.
“When I was shown dad’s goal I confronted him and said, ‘what’s the go here?’ But he didn’t give me much, just saying he played a few games for Port and Geelong.
“He didn't really speak about his football, kept it to himself and never forced me into playing, just saying if I enjoyed it and wanted to do it he was more than happy to guide me.
“He wanted me to make my own decisions, which was really humble of him.’’
The youngster and the Double Blues will be chasing a fourth consecutive victory when they host South Adelaide at Wigan Oval on Saturday in a match that will be live streamed by KommunityTV from 2.10pm.
Even before discovering his dad’s past, Sam had already found his calling.
He had started playing football in the Horsham District Football League with Kalkee’s under-10s.
Born in Adelaide but raised in his dad’s home town of Horsham, Sam moved to the Horsham Saints under-14s when Shayne started coaching at the club.
He progressed through the grades and played in the NAB League for the GWV Rebels, along with Victoria Country at under-19s level.
AFL talent ambassador Kevin Sheehan named him as one of his top medium defender draft prospects last year.
But Sam, who didn't qualify as a father-son selection because Shayne didn't play the required 100 games for Geelong (71 games from 1994-96) or Port (54 games from 1997-99), went undrafted.
He decided to move to Adelaide, where one of his two older sisters, Elle, was studying, to undertake a bachelor of exercise, sports science and nutrition degree at UniSA.
But football – and the hope of still being drafted – remained on his radar.
Knowing his dad had been overlooked at drafts before joining SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens, where he won a league premiership in 1993 before being drafted by the Cats at pick 70, Sam wanted to reignite his career in the SANFL.
“Dad’s an inspiration for me from that point of view,’’ Sam said.
“He didn't get drafted initially, played well with the Eagles and then got his chance.
“He showed me that a little kid from a country town can get picked up and that the (first) draft is not the be-all and end-all and that you can find different pathways if you keep working hard.’’
Now 19, Sam joined Sturt through family connections.
He is related to the famous Ebert family on his mum Kylie's side while former Norwood and Double Blues goalsneak Mark Evans is married to ex-West Coast and Port star Brad Ebert’s sister Ashleigh.
When Evans got wind of Sam moving to Adelaide he approached Sturt coach Martin Mattner about signing him.
Sam, strongly built at 183cm and 80kg, started the season in the reserves before making his league debut against Port in round four.
Dropped back to the seconds, he was recalled for the round 14 clash against the Crows, standing out with his hardness in the midfield by having six clearances and laying seven tackles.
He saved his best for the Bulldogs last week, having 18 disposals and kicking the game’s final goal 20 minutes into the last term after the home side had come from 21 points behind to tie the scores.
It was his first SANFL league goal and could not have been more timely.
“For a first goal it was obviously very special,’’ Sam said of his 35-metre snap shot matchwinner.
“I’m not sure how it went through, the wind must have carried it a fair bit, but to have all the fellas get around me and be able to help us string some wins together meant a lot.’’
Sturt’s home contest against South will be live streamed here from 2.10pm Saturday – one of three SANFL matches broadcast live on KommunityTV.
Central District and Norwood will kick things off in the under-18s at 10.30am before the Eagles and North Adelaide clash in the under-16s at 11.15am.
