WHAT IS BMX RACING?

BMX racing is a type of off-road bicycle racing, with the format taking its roots from motocross racing.

BMX bicycle races, which involve up to eight cyclists at a time, are sprint races on purpose-built off-road tracks.

The track usually consists of a mix of jumps, rollers and straight sections on a serpentine, dirt racecourse. The course has large banked corners which help the riders maintain speed.

BMX racing has been part of the Olympics since 2008, when it was introduced as a new sport in Beijing.
