Hills has claimed the first title on offer after shocking the undefeated grand final favourites to cap off a huge opening day at Netball SA Country Championships. Watch the Day 1 REPLAYS.

Hills Netball Association have stunned an undefeated Port Augusta to win the Under-11s country championship.

Hills enterred the decider as the best side in Pool B despite an early 10-goal loss to Adelaide Plains, but remained the underdogs against a powerhouse Port Augusta side who had scored 91 goals in five games.

Defence proved key for the girls in green, as several key intercepts and turnovers began to show on the scoreboard in the second half.

Hills kicked on after leading by two goals at halftime, to finish with a 16-9 win in the final.

The match capped off a big opening day of action at the Netball SA Country Champiosnhips

in Adelaide.

PREVIEW

Young stars in the U11, U13, U15 and U17 age groups as well as older players in the seniors will descend on Netball SA Stadium on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the 2024 Netball SA Country Championships.

Teams from a range of the state’s top netball associations, including Barossa, Light and Gawler, Western Eyre, Eastern Eyre, Great Flinders, Adelaide Plains, Hills, Yorke Peninsula, Great Southern, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Riverland, Mid South East, Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara and Limestone Coast will compete.

The top players from the regions hit Adelaide over the long weekend.

Great Southern will be looking to retain their A Grade title after a 33-21 defeat of Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara last season. Catch two of their preliminary round games on Saturday and another on Sunday against Mid South East.

Hills NA, who beat Great Southern in last year’s decider, again look to be among the candidates for the U17 title.

The action will begin at 8.45am on Saturday with two senior games – Barossa, Light and Gawler taking on Southern Hills and Western Eyre taking on the Mid South East.
