The Lacrosse SA men’s and women’s State Leagues return for another season this weekend with an exciting new addition.
This Saturday two opening round matches will be simultaneously live streamed here by The Advertiser and Messenger.
Woodville takes on Burnside in the men’s broadcast clash from 2.50pm, followed by Blue Warriors facing off against Burnside in the women’s at 3pm.
Blue Warriors star Charlotte Whinnen said her team – a combined side between Woodville and Sturt – was primed to take a step forward in 2021 on the back of a fourth-placed finish last campaign.
The two clubs merged last season to form a more competitive side.
Whinnen said improvement would be the cards in the team’s second season, after building a strong relationship and adding new coach Lee Haskett.
“Lee has been unbelievable and what she’s building on with us as a group of girls is pushing us forward,” Whinnen said.

“People always say at the start of the year ‘don’t think about September’, but our mindset is we want to be competitive all the way through and lift when it hits the finals.
“Hopefully we can get a win against Burnside this week to get good momentum flowing into the rest of the season.”
Whinnen highlighted the returning Ellie Bishop and Australian squad member Olivia Parker as two players to watch this season in the Blue Warriors’ midfield.
She said reigning premier Brighton and grand finalist Glenelg would again be the sides to beat.
Burnside should look to build on last season’s preliminary final appearance, while Wilderness will hope to move up the ladder following a winless 2020 season.
Brighton will also enter as defending champions in the men’s state league.
Bombers faceoff Jack Woodford said the side’s mix of old and young talent should have it well-placed for another title challenge.
They staged a remarkable comeback win to triumph in the grand final over Glenelg, which until then had gone undefeated.
The two sides will come together in an exciting round one clash.
“Glenelg are a strong outfit every year and we have a good rivalry with them … hopefully the competition gets stronger with a few sides improving this year as well,” Woodford said.
“It’s really exciting to have The Advertiser live streaming some games. Hopefully we can grow it and put the sport on the map a bit more.”
Meanwhile, East Torrens Payneham will hope to mount a challenge as it returns to the men’s state league having not featuring in last season.
Burnside, premier in 2019, went down narrowly in last year’s preliminary final and should bounce back strongly.
Woodville will also fancy its chances to be among the mix, while North Adelaide and Sturt will be seeking improvement on 2020’s fifth and sixth-placed finishes respectively.
