EARLIER – FINALS PREVIEW
The Seacliff Hockey Club is ready to take home two Hockey SA Premier League flags on Saturday, according to star player Connor Spouse.
With SA hockey powerhouse Port Adelaide District surprisingly failing to make either grand final, Seacliff will be taking on Adelaide in both the men’s and women’s games, which will be broadcast live on advertiser.com.au.
Both games will take place at MATE Stadium, with the women’s game commencing at 4pm and the men following up at 6pm.
Spouse said his men’s side is ready to win its second premiership in a row.
“It’s a pretty unreal feeling making it into the big dance for the second year in a row. It’s what you play team sport for,” Spouse said.
“I’m really confident in the boys – we were in the exact same position last year, now it’s time to get the job done again.”
Adelaide had the week off last week after defeating Port Adelaide District in their first final, and will prove a big test for the in-form Seacliff side.
Spouse believes both Seacliff teams are ready for the challenge, and said that Port Adelaide missing out opens the door for another club to start a dynasty in SA hockey.
“It is very surprising to not see Port in the finals, especially the girls as they’ve been a powerhouse in that competition for a long time,” he said.
“Honestly, I’m super proud of the club and my team.
“The boys started the season off slow but we’ve improved throughout the season and have hit form at just the right time.”
Adelaide will prove hard to beat in the women’s matchup, the team in fantastic form after defeating favourites Port Adelaide 4-0.
Seacliff is well-rested after the week off however, and their ability to clamp down on attacking players may prove to be the deciding factor in what should be a close game.
Adelaide star Emily Grist said her team is excited for the challenge.
“We’re incredibly excited for the opportunity. We’ve done it the long way and had some quality matches in the lead up so we’re really well-prepared,” Grist said.
“We’re really confident in what we can bring to the game so we’ll just be focused on executing that.
“I’m so incredibly proud of the team. We’ve built a really strong connection and culture but we know the job isn’t done yet and we can’t wait to get out there.”
