“We want to keep pushing and competing,” Smith said.

“We’ve done a lot of preparation around it and we’re planning to make sure we do whatever we can to be ready for the crucial games on Sunday.

“We don’t see winning as the be-all and end-all because we look at player development and competitiveness as well, but it would be huge for us if we were lucky enough to win again.”

While Smith said the Flames had plenty of talent across the board from U12s to U18s, he believed the tournament could prove to be one of the most competitive yet.

“From my view, there are a few clubs who could really go all the way, with South Adelaide, West Adelaide and Forestville all posing a threat.

“Top can lose to bottom at any given time, and I think this competitiveness will only bring about better basketball for the whole state.”

Smith said the Flames would take the correct approach on the court and play a game style which will see them compete.

“We have directives and style of play we go to, but we’re able to change it up and do things a bit differently if needed,” he said.

“If we can stick to fundamentals of defence, being hard nosed and fighting for every ball, we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
