The emerging best talents from the Giants and Swans are coming to South Australia, and they aren’t coming for fun.
The two academies will join forces under 232-game AFL veteran Mark McVeigh to take on the SA Under-18 side in a trial match ahead of the AFL Under-18 National Championships next month.
The encounter at Thebarton Oval in Adelaide will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV through the Advertiser and Daily Telegraph websites.

While the game might be a chance for young athletes to press an 11th hour claim for a spot in the Allies’ nationals team, a team comprised of the best Aussie rules players from NSW, Queensland, Tasmania, ACT and NT, McVeigh was adamant his charges were also determined to get a result.
“I think you have to take all these opportunities and we are very fortunate to play against the likes of South Australia’s Under-18s,” he said. “I have been in the industry for a long time and I have played alongside many guys from SA, I respect the system down there.
“But we are coming over to win and there is no doubt about it.
“The Swans Academy has been able to win two games from four in the Coates League this season. That is fantastic, we have some guys in the team in great form. Then the Giants boys will add plenty of talent and skill.”
There are several National Draft eligible players in the line-up, and with talent scouts from all AFL clubs keeping a keen eye on the ‘friendly’ clash, McVeigh knew his young guns would be up for the challenge.

Indhi Kirk (Swans)
The son of former AFL player Brett Kirk has turned plenty of heads over the past two seasons. A highly-skilled winger, Kirk has proven his versatility on the field during the Coates League pushing up into the forward circle for the Swans.
Charlie McCormack (Giants)
The 18-year-old key forward will be a target upfront for the NSW academies team all game. He has performed well for the Giants in their Coates League opportunities this season, possesses a good set of hands and eye for goal.
Caleb May (Swans)
At 208cm, the Swans ruckman towers above most rivals on the field. But it is the way he covers the ground and his ability to run with the ball that surprises most. Not afraid of getting his huge frame in the way in the contest either.
Patrick Payne (Giants)
The NSW academies will be hoping Pat can inflict some pain on his SA rivals on Sunday. The half-forward has shown glimpses of what he can do this season, and possesses the type of speed that can bring opposition defences undone in the blink of an eye.
Max Rider (Swans)
McVeigh described him as a player who has snuck under the radars and his smoky for best on ground this weekend. Rider is an elusive forward who has a great leap and strong set of hands. He will provide the X-Factor around the goals for the academies side.
