Sturt and North Adelaide have battled it out for premiership glory in the SANFL reserves Grand Final at Adelaide Oval. Catch-up on the clash now in our full match replay.

North Adelaide reserves coach Darren Reeves hoped there would be more than one piece of SANFL silverware heading back to Prospect on Sunday.

In an already excellent year for the club, the Roosters played off for the league, reserves and under-18 premierships, after having already claimed the women’s flag.

Reeves said the Roosters’ terrific 2022 reflected the strength of the club from top to bottom.

“It’s just a great testament to the footy club and the positive environment that runs right through the club,” Reeves said.

“We really are one club – and that’s not always the case at this level – so that’s played a huge part in the success.

“There was relief at first after both league and reserves made it through and now it will be an exciting build up to Sunday.”

The Roosters and Double Blues have been the standout sides in the reserves for much of the season and have fought tight battles in their past two meetings, with North claiming a four point-win the semi-final.

Reeves said his team would need to be at the top of its game to beat Sturt again.

He expected midfielders Matthew Longbottom, Jared Deep and Charlie Dinning to lead the way along with the Roosters’ back six, which he described as the catalyst to their season.

“We didn’t play well that day so we’re going to have to play a hell of a lot better Sunday because they’re a good footy side and have been the best side all year,” Reeves said.

North Adelaide and Sturt will clash in the SANFL reserves grand final on Sunday, with the action live streamed here by KommunityTV.

The Double Blues, minor premiers, led almost all day in the semi-final only to be run down late by the Roosters.

They responded with a convincing 40-point win over West Adelaide in last week’s preliminary final and coach Chris Trapp said it could end up working to Sturt’s advantage.

“For us I think it’s almost been the perfect preparation,” Trapp said.

“You’re always going to take winning the second semi to go straight through to a grand final, but I think in hindsight we learnt a fair bit from that loss to North, were able to play well in the prelim and get some more experience on Adelaide Oval.

“I think we have been the best two sides all year and North have been able to get us the last two times … we certainly expect a closely fought game.”

The likes of ruckman Amos Doyle, midfielder Mani Liddy – Sturt’s best last week – along with defender Zac Becker and gun young forward Chad Reschke will be crucial to the Double Blues’ hopes.

The three Lochowiak brothers – Anzac, Mihail and Jacob – are also expected to feature heavily.
