Thousands of junior basketballers – including interstate sides for the first time in more than 12 months – have descended upon Adelaide this weekend for the Easter Classic.

Following the cancellation of the hugely-popular annual event last year, the tournament is back with more than 200 teams to compete across more than 30 grades.
And The Advertiser and Messenger will break new ground in an exclusive live stream of 10 grand finals from the Classic starting at 8am on Easter Monday.
It follows our broadcast of the SA Junior Country Championships last month.
Local sides will have the opportunity to take on interstate counterparts, with teams from NSW, Victoria and WA making the trip across the border to battle it out at six Adelaide venues.
Norwood under-21 men’s shooting guard Luca Barei said having the Classic live streamed would add to the strong community engagement the tournament already brings.
“That’s the main idea of it,” Luca, 18, said.
“It’s a great way of uniting the clubs and bringing everyone together.
“It was disappointing not to have the tournament last year.
“But this year we’re looking pretty strong and we’re looking forward to testing ourselves playing the interstate sides.”
Matches begin on Good Friday, before the tournament culminates with Monday’s title deciders.

The Flames’ Lara Somfai, 14, said the team chemistry of her girls under-16 side should help it to go deep in the tournament.
“To have the grand finals live streamed is super exciting and I think we have a good chance of making it that far,” Lara said.
“I’ve got a lot of faith in our team and my coach.”
The Easter Classic, which has been running since 1995, is presented by the Adelaide Community Basketball Association (ACBA) and Norwood Basketball Club.
Flames president Chris Webber said it was extremely satisfying to finally hold the hugely-popular event after last year’s cancellation.
“It’s the first junior basketball tournament – and probably one of the first across all junior sports – in Australia (since COVID) that has players from multiple states playing in the one spot,” Webber said.
“And we’ve really increased our local participation this year as well.
“It’s a credit to the staff and volunteers to get where we are and a massive thank you to the interstate teams to put their faith and trust in us to run a tournament in this difficult time.”
