INSIDE MAIL – NEWCASTLE

RACE 1

Extreme Courage is a debutant by Extreme Choice from the family of Group 1 winner Dracula. Improved with each trial and got out to a big lead before easing down to win his last heat at Wyong. Straand Care is first starter by Star Turn from a daughter of dual Group 1 winner Tartan Tights. Came from off speed to win his Scone trial by nearly four lengths then under a hold when just pipped by Solitario in his Tamworth heat. Puerto Banus has the advantage of race experience. Two close seconds to start this campaign and will be prominent again.

Bet: Extreme Courage to win

RACE 2

Akkadian Emperor was impressive winning his maiden over 1800m at Hawkesbury in May before finishing midfield behind Aztec State at Flemington in his first Australian campaign. Resumes as a gelding and was okay in his 1100m Canterbury trial. Release Point was runner-up to the stakes placed Pier Pressure at Scone before beating all bar the promising Like Lukey over 1750m at Muswellbrook. Rose’s Legacy showed improvement from her first-up run in a Super Maiden at Rosehill with a good win from Sounds Unusual over 1500m here on Dec 1. Looks like she will handle the extra trip.

Bet: Akkadian Emperor to win

RACE 3

Iconic Miss was unlucky at the Sapphire Coast last start after being held up behind the leader and unable to build her momentum. She got clear near the 150 and tried hard tut just missed catching Fudge by a head. Rinsed Enuff boxed on for second at Queanbeyan second-up before stepping up to a Rosehill Super Maiden when a length-and-a-half fourth to Brigidine Gal. Went to Canterbury when sixth to Amusing. Back to provincial grade can see her right in the finish.

Bet: Iconic Miss to win

RACE 4

Irish Bliss led all-the-way for a smart win from How Much Better and Ace’s In Bloom when resuming over 1300m here on Nov 2. Went to Hawkesbury and worked over time outside the leader in fast time when last to Fiddlers Green. Back in grade and steps up to 1600m from a good draw. Will make his presence felt. Luskaire took benefit from his first-up fifth over 1200m at Kembla when he stepped up to 1500m here and beat Sanctuary Storm by four lengths. Drawn out but gets in well with the 3kg claim. Dances With Hooves is better than her recent form shows. Don’t dismiss.

Bet: Irish Bliss each-way

RACE 5

Stardeel was kept honest in front and was just run down late when beaten a length into fourth behind Plaza on debut at Hawkesbury in June. Resumes from a spell as a gelding and has won both recent trials. Miss Jones is a first starter by Deep Field from stakes winner Vienna Miss. Has been good in all three trials including a nose second behind Burj who won on debut here on Dec 1. Cold Brew is a debutant by Pierro. Closed well to win his recent Rosehill trial.

Bet: Stardeel to win

RACE 6

Monty Be Quick improved with each run in his first Australian campaign culminating with a five-and-a-half length win over 1500m at Kembla in July. Showed he is ready to kick off his second preparation with a nice win in his Muswellbrook trial before a close second to Vegas Outlaw in a 1200m at Wyong. River Pat hasn’t been far away in his four runs this preparation. Jumped awkwardly and lost ground when sixth to Phenom at Wyong before a second to Merry Mac Boy at Taree. All Too Wild was caught on the wrong part of the track when sixth to Churchill’s Choice at Scone before scoring a gutsy win at Tamworth. Don’t underestimate.

Bet: Monty Be Quick to win

RACE 7

Burj followed her strong trial form with a game win on debut here on Dec 1 when racing keenly outside the leader in the 1300m Super Maiden. Drawn nicely and Braith Nock rides again with a claim. True Amor did a good job to score first-up at Kembla in a strong form race. Runner-up Raikkonen won his next two while third placed Duck Egg Blue won next time out. He didn’t handle the deteriorating track at Canterbury next start when eight to Codetta. Bartolf will take improvement from his first-up fourth at Wyong. Showed good ability winning at Scone on debut.

Bet: Burj to win
