Australian football player Patrick Yazbek has been handed a two-match suspension for violating America’s Major League Soccer anti-discrimination policy.

The former Sydney FC player will miss his club’s next two games over an incident that took place during Nashville’s 2-0 loss to Austin FC last weekend.

Yazbek’s first-half comment towards an Austin player led to referee Rosendo Mendoza delaying play for five minutes.

Before play restarted, Yazbek – who was making his MLS debut and just his third appearance in all competitions for Nashville after joining them last month from Norwegian outfit Viking – was substituted.

Now it has been revealed Yazbek dropped a c-bomb on his opponent, which resulted in the suspension.

Former AFL player turned media personality Dan Gorringe couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing as the term has become part of many people’s every day vernacular in Australia.

“Have you ever seen a more Aussie way to get suspended?” Gorringe asks.

“Our very own Socceroo Patrick Yazbek has been suspended for two games by the MLS for using an offensive word on the field.

“There it is,” he says as he points to the word.

“Now I don’t know about you guys but I’ve been called this probably 20 times today and I feel great.

“I feel like I’ve got the love and respect of my friends and family. It is a word of endearment here in Australia.

“You could walk through a pub and get called it 10 times and have the beers bought for you all night because people love you and respect you.

“It’s how we show our affection. We might not show it physically, we show it verbally and this is the word we use OK.

“Poor Patrick he doesn’t deserve it, you know why because Patrick’s a good...”

Along with being suspended, Yazbek was left out of the recent Socceroos squad.

It’s understood Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has spoken to Yazbek since the incident.

However, a Football Australia spokesman said Yazbek’s suspension was not the reason he wasn’t chosen in the Socceroos squad announced on Friday for FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bahrain (Thursday night, Gold Coast) and Indonesia (September 10, Jakarta).

Yazbek made his Socceroos debut in Australia’s 5-0 win over Lebanon on March 26.

But he wasn’t selected in the Socceroos squad for June’s matches against Bangladesh and Palestine.
