THE captain and coach were nowhere to be seen as Liverpool legends were instead presented to devoted Reds supporters at Brisbane Airport on Wednesday.

Coach Brendan Rodgers, captain Jordan Henderson and the rest of the squad snuck away without a trace on the Liverpool touring party’s arrival from Bangkok ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

They hopped straight off the plane and into a team bus under the international terminal — avoiding both fans and the waiting media in the process.

However, Liverpool stalwarts Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush, Didi Hamann and Luis Garcia were happy to pose for selfies, sign autographs and speak to fans who had travelled from far and wide to get a glimpse of their childhood heroes.

One group had come all the way from Auckland, New Zealand, their plane arriving 30 minutes before the legends emerged from the arrivals terminal.

Fowler spoke of his excitement in returning to Australia after Liverpool’s successful trip to Melbourne in 2013.

“I’ll be honest, we were here two years ago now and the excitement that everyone saw when we were playing at the MCG was phenomenal and everyone at the club still talks about it now,” he said.

“If we can replicate half of what we achieved that night it’s going to be a successful trip.”

Liverpool warmed up for their clash with the Roar with a 4-0 thrashing of the Thai Premier League All Stars on Tuesday night.

Before leaving Thailand, coach Rodgers said his squad was looking forward to the Brisbane leg of the Reds tour.

“Brisbane ... (is) another different experience but a great experience,” Rodgers said.

“It’s a demanding pre-season with lots of travel but we are looking to maximise what we can out of each country, each training session and each game, and come the beginning of the season we’ll be in a really good footballing condition to start the season.”

Reds trio Simon Minolet, Martin Skrtel and James Milner will unveil the club’s new away strip at King George Square at 5pm on Thursday.

Soon after, all conquering Queensland State of Origin coach and diehard Liverpool fan Mal Meninga will take Reds players Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Sheyi Ojo on a tour of Caxton Street, which will be renamed “Anfield Road” for the occasion.

The Reds squad will later be put through their paces in an open training session at Suncorp Stadium.

Tickets are still available for Friday night’s clash between the English Premier League club and the three-time A-League champions.
