Melbourne Victory is set to strengthen its attacking stocks with the signing of Greek striker Nikos Vergos.
Vergos, 28, is understood to be arriving in Australia this week after parting ways with Greek Super League club Atromitos despite having season left on a two-year deal he signed in July last year.
At the time, the former Greece under 21-international was reportedly in advanced talks with the Victory before opting for Atromitos.
However, it seems the Victory has finally got its man, with Vergos to join an attacking arsenal that already includes Socceroos trio Bruno Fornaroli, Daniel Arzani and Ben Folami.
Fornaroli was among the scorers in the Victory’s 4-1 Australia Cup round-of-32 win over NPL Northern NSW club Lambton on Tuesday night.
Nishan Velupillay netted a brace, while 17-year-old Alex Lee also scored in his senior debut for the Melbourne club.

“I was really happy with Alex’s adaptation to the first-team level,” new Victory coach Patrick Kisnorbo said.
“It’s really impressive that we’re bringing young kids from our academy to play in the senior team.
”We want to play young kids, but only if they’re suited and ready for our environment.
“There are a lot of players coming through, and it’s great to have competition in the squad because that promotes good learnings and people training harder.”
Kisnorbo said his side’s overall performance was “OK”.
“There’s still a lot of work to do, but I’m happy that the squad is coming along,” he said.
“I was happy with the way we scored the goals … but also the way we worked and pressed was really positive.”
