Adelaide United’s Australian U-23s goalkeeper Daniel Margush is the second young Red to walk away from the club in a month after exciting winger Carlo Armiento sought an exit which was granted in December.

Margush, 22, was officially released by Adelaide on Monday despite being on international duty in Thailand as the Olyroos look to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

The Advertiser in October reported Marguish had been shopped to Perth Glory during the October A-League transfer window and it appears that coach Tony Popovic is still keen to land the impressive shot stopper.

It’s also understood Socceroo James Troisi is also close to securing a move away from the club during the current A-League transfer window.

Armiento was chased by three A-League clubs Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City and most recently Central Coast where boss Alen Stajcic had a closer look at the clever left-footed dead ball specialist.

Margush was relegated to no. 3 keeper under new coach Gertjan Verbeek after making eight appearances under former coach Marco Kurz and Barcelona legend and Reds title winning boss Guillermo Amor.

Margush sat behind Paul Izzo and Isaac Richards this season.

Armiento also fell out of favour when Verbeek took charge after Kurz handed him his A-League debut.

Armiento was banished from the Reds 2019 pre-season training and forced to practice with the club’s third team (reserves) before the player’s union intervened and he was reinstated to the first team.

Kurz must serve a one-match ban and won’t be sitting on the bench when the Reds host Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

The German was sent off in Sunday’s night’s controversial 3-2 loss to Mariners in Gosford.

“Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that there’s only room for one goalkeeper in the starting eleven and we are spoilt with some of the best young ‘keepers in the country,’’ said Adelaide football director Bruce Djite in a statement.
