Giuseppe Bovalina has played his last match for Adelaide United after joining Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps.
The 19-year-old right-back has signed with the Whitecaps until the end of 2026 for an undisclosed fee, with the club also having an option on his services for two more years.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity that is being given to me and I can’t wait to arrive (in Vancouver),” said Bovalina, who will arrive in Canada this weekend.
“I will work hard and give my all for Vancouver.”
Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said the club had “tracked” Bovalina as “one of the top players in his position in the A-League”.
“He brings qualities at both ends of the pitch and we are happy that we were able to convince him that we are the right club with our plan and pathway,” Schuster said.
“We’re looking forward to helping him develop his qualities to the next level.”
Bovalina made 23 appearances in all competitions for Adelaide, with his first senior game for the Reds having been only eight months ago.
“While I have worked extremely hard on and off the pitch, I would like to thank … the Adelaide United coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to flourish on the biggest stage of Australian football,” the teenager said.
Adelaide head of football Marius Zanin praised Bovalina’s commitment.
“Giuseppe has been a true professional during his time at Adelaide United,” Zanin said.
“His extreme dedication and hard work are fantastic examples to the other young players in our cohort.”
