AURELIO Vidmar has been sacked from Thailand’s Bangkok Glass despite sitting in fifth place in the Thai League.

The former Adelaide United boss and Socceroos assistant coach was axed after beating Navy FC 3-0 on Saturday night. Thai sources claimed the sacking was a shock given Vidmar was named by league officials as the best coach for the first part of the season.

But they also claimed the club relationship was strained when Vidmar was regularly challenged by officials over his selections and tactics during matches where text messages were sent to the bench demanding instant action.

The club announced that Vidmar had become Bangkok Glass’ 16th coach in the past 10 years after he won the job last August.

“Vidmar’s tenure was brought to the end after BGFC (Bangkok Glass) deemed that the 50-year-old Australian did not feature in the team’s plans for next season due to the difference in direction under which to take the club in the long term,’’ said the official statement.

Vidmar’s former assistant at Adelaide United Phil Stubbins was one of the coaches sacked by the club in the past decade.

Stubbins who is currently coaching West Adelaide in SA’s NPL was sacked just a game into the Thai League 2013 season after he had been at the helm of Bangkok Glass for six months.
