NO Adelaide United players inside the top 10 — again.
It’s what you get in a one-team town, as the new owners — despite promises — were unable to find the passion and funding to bring a superstar to a city which has been starved of a football celebrity they can adore.
This season’s A-League top-10 players in the competition are mainly marquee stars for their clubs.
Adelaide hasn’t got that type of pull even though Baba Diawara is sitting on the club’s marquee list (despite his salary is understood to be less than $450,000).
Having Japanese superstar Keisuke Honda and Swedish striker Ola Toivonen from Melbourne Victory sitting at No. 1 and No. 2 were the only players the entire News Corp football team agreed upon.
However, No. 3 to No. 50 caused some healthy debate and finally the Reds captain Isaias crept inside the top 15 — despite most scribes having him out — but not good enough for a berth in the top 10.
Isaias garnered more passes, tackles, interceptions and touches than any other Adelaide United player last A-League season and won his second straight Golden Boots award.
The biggest disappointment from an SA perspective was to have new German signing Mirko Boland sitting so low and too close to 50.
The German will prove scribes outside SA wrong, as will goalkeeper Paul Izzo who was punted outside the top 50 despite vigorous pleas to include the Reds shot-stopper.
