Adelaide United’s A-League squad has been forced to move away from Playford’s training ground.

Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz has been forced to move his troops to Adelaide City’s Oakden because of the poor condition of the club’s Playford training centre.

Adelaide United’s A-League squad has been forced to return to temporary nomadic status almost four years after shifting into its Playford headquarters.

A malfunctioning sprinkler system which doesn’t water the two Elizabeth training pitches evenly has potentially contributed to a spate of soft-tissue injuries for some members of the squad.

Adelaide has had a horrendous injury rate this season which has, according to sources, prompted United’s move as the club battles to stay within striking distance of the top four.

Statistics proved that Adelaide has had 11 injuries.

Mirko Boland (hip), Ryan Kitto (hamstring), Baba Diawara (knee), George Blackwood (collar bone),

Michael Jakobson (soreness), Lachlan Brook (knee), Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (quad), Boland (hamstring),

Ben Halloran (ankle), Nikola Mileusnic (ankle) and Jordan Elsey (foot) have all suffered.

Now the club’s training routine has been severely disrupted in the lead up to Friday’s clash against Perth Glory at Hindmarsh.

Reds coach Marco Kurz led a first session of many at the home of Adelaide City at Oakden on Wednesday.

The Reds will train at Hindmarsh on Thursday — as per the usual pre-match routine — before the squad is expected to return to Adelaide City Park.

“Extreme weather in January and February coupled with irrigation issues has adversely affected areas of the playing surface at our training base at Playford,’’ said an Adelaide spokesman.

“We are working with Playford Council to resolve the matter in the short-term ahead of additional capital works in the off-season.

“The team will train at Coopers Stadium tomorrow as normal and we will continue to evaluate the playing surface at Playford following Friday’s match.

“We expect to return to training at Playford shortly.”

Kurz led a major session which included a potential first 11 clash against members of the Reds squad on Tuesday morning at Elizabeth before the shift to Oakden.

Adelaide United officially moved into the new $700,000 training centre at Ridley Reserve Elizabeth on September 17, 2015.

The two football pitches which have same dimensions at Hindmarsh Stadium’s 105m x 68m had undergone extensive maintenance work just before preseason in June.

About three weeks ago the western pitch had been rejuvenated but now the eastern pitch is the one which is causing all sorts of concerns for players which prompted Kurz’s men to move.

Prior to shifting to Elizabeth, United trained at various venues since when it was born in 2003 including Hindmarsh, Thebarton Oval and SASI’s Kidman Park headquarters.

The City of Playford has been contacted for comment.
