ADELAIDE United star Craig Goodwin says the team will be very happy if coach Marco Kurz stays beyond this season as his own Reds future is at the mercy of FIFA transfer windows.

Goodwin, 27, was lured back to the club after two seasons with Netherlands club Sparta Rotterdam in the middle of Kurz’s initial two-year deal.

Kurz last month revealed discussions about his long term future were set to be decided with chairman Piet van Der Pol last month between Goodwin being sounded out by a South Korean K-League club.

Goodwin’s three year contract has a buyout clause.

“For me I’m not too bothered, it’s for the coach and the club to sort out,’’ Goodwin said.

“For myself and for the other players we have to keep the talk purely about the next game and focus on that.

“We can’t start thinking about outside things that really can’t affect the way we play as such.

“You know the coach (Kurz) is here now and we’re working with him as best we can.

“And I think everyone will be very happy if he stays but we just work with what it is now and do the best that we can.”

It’s believed Goodwin was courted by Suwon Bluewings during the current K-League transfer window.

“There’s been interest,’’ he said.

“But for me I’d put all that aside and I’m kind of focussed on trying to do well for the rest of the season with Adelaide and trying to win something.

“We’ve won the FFA Cup but I’ll feel that if we can finish in that top four at least we’re in a good postion to do well in the finals.

“Hopefully with everyone back fit by then we’ll have the strongest squad and everyone fighting for places.

“There’s options (abroad) when I’m playing well but for me I’m happy to be where I am at the moment and we’ll leave for whatever happns in the future for then.”

The winger is the club’s leading goalscorer with nine A-League goals from 21 starts but with striker George Blackwood away on Olyroos duty this week United’s stocks were bolstered at least on the training track.

Centre back Michael Jakobsen was back in full training so too was winger Nikola Mileusnic.

The Dane missed Adelaide’s 2-0 away loss to Sydney FC due to back spasms leaving United without a recognised centre back in Sydney.

Centre back Jordan Elsey has been out of action with an ankle injury since February 16.

Mileusnic had been missing from the Reds line up since February 9 after he was struck down by an ankle injury in a 1-1 away draw with Melbourne City.

Mileusnic and Jakobsen featured in a practice match at Elizabeth on Tuesday as Kurz appears eager to get his systems and formations right before the Reds host runaway A-League leader Perth Glory at Hindmarsh on Friday.

“Not having both centre backs disrupts the formation a little bit but we can manage that against Perth,’’ Goodwin said.

“Scoring first will help when they have conceded first it’s opened them up.

“I think they’re a team defensively very well structured and if we can score first against them and force them to come further up the pitch it will work well.”
