“We‘ll train for two weeks with the intention of playing games on July 25,” he said.
“At this stage, we’re only going to play games for the under-12s to the under-16s.

“The reality of hosting games where we can only have 100 people at the venue is really difficult for us, because we all play at the one venue.”
“We’re thinking restrictions will lift, but we don’t know for sure. If they do change, and we can then host those younger grades, we’ll definitely be doing that as well.”

Dikes said the season would ideally run for 10 weeks and wrap up in mid-September.
He said he was “quietly confident” of being able to host games on the scheduled return date, but volunteer numbers would be a key factor for the sport’s return.

“We need to get an extra four people per team,” he said.
“We sent out a survey asking parents their thoughts on returning to play, their expectations and whether or not they would be prepared to help out and we got some fairly positive results.”
Cairns District Junior Rugby League presidents will meet next week to make a decision on the 2020 season.
Senior competitions have already been cancelled.
