Baseball gun Shohei Ohtani continues to redefine what it means to be a superstar.
After signing a 10-year, $700 million (A$1.1 billion) deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, you’d assume the Japanese drawcard would be waited on hand and foot.
But during a recent Los Angeles Dodgers game, the reigning MVP was captured on video preparing eight cups of water — not for himself, but for his teammates.
As the video circulated on social media, fans and commentators praised Ohtani’s selflessness.

“This is why he’s the face of baseball,” one person wrote.
“Best player in the league and still the most humble.”
“He’s Japanese through and through, he loves baseball and is one hell of a team player. The kind of guy who really takes cares of his team,” another wrote.
Ohtani is playing a major role in the Dodgers’ strong start to the season, boasting a .288 batting average with six home runs and eight RBIs.
Despite recovering from Tommy John surgery, which has temporarily sidelined his pitching, he has continued to be a pivotal figure in the line-up.
His remarkable 2024 season, where he achieved a historic 50 home run and 50 stolen base milestone, culminated in a World Series victory for the Dodgers and fans are in a frenzy to see if they can go back to back.
Beyond his on-field achievements, Ohtani’s marketability has soared, with numerous endorsements and a global fanbase that extends far beyond baseball enthusiasts.
Ohtani announced on Instagram on Saturday afternoon that his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, gave birth to their first child, a girl.
“Welcome to the Ohtani Family!” the three-time MVP wrote one day after he was put on the paternity list. “I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.
“I would also like to thank the Dodgers organisation, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement.
“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”
