“Welcome to the Ohtani Family!” the three-time MVP wrote one day after he was put on the paternity list. “I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.
“I would also like to thank the Dodgers organisation, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”
It’s been an eventful year-plus for Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers in December 2023 after winning two MVP awards with the Angels.
After signing with the Dodgers, Ohtani revealed in February 2024 that he was married to Tanaka, who is also an athlete.
She played basketball collegiately at Waseda University and later was a member of the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women’s Japan Basketball League from 2019-2023.
The couple, who share the beloved dog Decoy, had known one another for a few years prior to marriage, Ohtani said last year.
Ohtani earned his first World Series ring last year with the Dodgers in five games over the Yankees.
In his second season with the Dodgers (15-6) this year, Ohtani has hit six home runs with eight RBIs, holding a .930 OPS.
