Conor McGregor drags Khabib’s Nurmagomedov’s wife into feud

Conor McGregor has dished out plenty of sledges but none so bizarre — or downright humiliating — as this one at Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Conor McGregor: UFC champ's history of tantrums

Conor McGregor took his trash talk to a new level when he dragged Khabib Nurmagomedov’s wife into the pair’s feud.

The UFC megastar claims to have retired from the Octagon but Nurmagomedov didn’t buy his announcement when he tweeted to his 7.56 million followers he was calling it quits, accusing the Irishman of playing games with the MMA promotion to make more money.

“Conor acts like a jealous wife, who says, ‘I will leave’ all the time but then comes back,” Nurmagomedov said. Little did he know his choice of words would come back to haunt him.

While the lightweight champion was having a laugh at his characterisation of his rival, who he submitted in the fourth round of their fight at UFC 229 last October, McGregor, as always, was ready with a comeback.

Anyone keeping a close eye on McGregor’s social channels recently will be aware his hot takes have been getting even spicier. He’s been goading Nurmagomedov and Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg — somewhat questionably — and you’d be entitled to ask how much of his Proper 12 whiskey he’s been swilling.

McGregor was in a feisty mood again today when he bit back at Nurmagomedov’s “wife” sledge with a marriage crack of his own.

“You wife is a towel, mate,” McGregor tweeted alongside a picture of Nurmagomedov and his better half.

Nurmagomedov reportedly got married in 2013 and McGregor was poking fun at his wife’s look on their wedding day when she was covered by a veil.

Upon reflection, perhaps McGregor thought his insult went too far. He deleted the tweet not long after it went up.

McGregor hasn’t won a fight since beating Eddie Alvarez in November 2016 to become the first UFC fighter to hold championship belts in two divisions at once. He was beaten by Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match in 2017 before returning to the Octagon against Nurmagomedov last year.

Nurmagomedov said he would like to fight again in September, two months after the end of his Nevada State Athletic Commission ban for the chaotic brawl with McGregor’s team after their October fight.

But Nurmagomedov wasn’t the only one McGregor was taking aim at today. In response to boxing star Paulie Malignaggi slapping McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov at a Bare Knuckle Fight Club media promotion, the UFC icon used the dramatic incident as the perfect opportunity to sling mud at the American.

But he didn’t need any words to do so.

McGregor trained with Malignaggi ahead of his fight against Mayweather and famously claimed he’d knocked the boxer down during a sparring session.

Malignaggi denied that story, claiming he was unfairly shoved, but McGregor used this picture as the perfect PR about how easily he was adjusting to a different combat sport.

After Malignaggi slapped Lobov, sparking wild scenes where both men had to be restrained, McGregor jumped on Twitter and uploaded more than 20 photos of him sparring with Malignaggi to remind the 38-year-old just what went down in 2017.

Unsurprisingly, all the photos showed McGregor with the upper hand in their exchanges.
