Thoughts of going back-to-back won’t be anywhere near the forefront as Cairns Hockey Association’s reigning men’s and women’s A-grade champions return to the pitch.

Souths president Paul Dennis said the club won’t be getting caught up in defending 2019’s dominant double-title success, instead putting the focus on a safe return to play.

“Given that everything’s still a bit up in the air at the moment, it’s about getting everyone back on the field, at least initially,” he said.

“Obviously, we’d love to win another couple of premierships, but the priority is to get everyone back on the field, and then it’s a case of focusing on the rest of the season and thinking about premierships.”

The club this week welcomed back A-grade and under-18s players for their first team training sessions since March, with the remaining grades set to return this week.

“From all accounts, we had a good turnout and players was were excited to be returning,” he said.

CHA’s Winter Season is set to return on July 22.
