ADELAIDE has signed American 180cm point guard Adris DeLeon as its third import.
DeLeon, 34, played under Sixers coach Joey Wright at Gold Coast Blaze in 2011 and played with Wollongong the following season.
He has played in the Dominican Republic for the past five seasons and was thrilled to be back in the NBL.
“I feel good to be back in Australia first of all,” DeLeon said. “I’m grateful for Joey, who is one of my mentors. Adelaide has a lot of history and I’m really excited.
“I have won back-to-back championships, so that’s what I’m looking for. That’s what me and Joey use to talk about all the time.
“The only thing you work for in your career is to win championships and that’s what I’m looking for. Go back to Adelaide and just get that win they needed last year.
“I’m a veteran now but my game hasn’t changed. I’m a passionate guy. I enjoy the game. I
play the game as if it’s my last. I make sure the crowd gets into it.
“I’m one of those guys that celebrates every shot. If one of my teammates does something
crazy, like a great highlight, I celebrate like I did it.”
DeLeon completes the Sixers’ 11-man roster, which is made up of US imports Ramone
Moore, Jacob Wiley, DeLeon and the Australian contingency of Daniel Johnson, Nathan Sobey, Brendan Teys, Majok Deng, Anthony Drmic, Adam Doyle, Harry Froling and Jack McVeigh.
